"Your Religion Our Culture"

2011-08-01 — 2011-08-08
Our role: Organizers
Venue: Lithuania

The main theme of this project is cultural and religious barriers, i.e. how they originate, why they develop, how to avoid them or at least to mitigate the impact concerning religious and social stigmas upon young people. It is not a surprise that many conflicts arise due to misunderstandings between people from various religious and cultural backgrounds since plenty of prejudices and stereotypes circulate among youngsters who are not well acquainted with other religions and cultures rather than theirs. Moreover, during the project we will discuss religious and cultural discrimination, how to be tolerant towards people from different religious and cultural backgrounds. The main aim of this youth exchange is to encourage intercultural and inter-religious communication, give a chance for young people to broaden their horizons in terms of how various religions have impact on the family, education, political and social life, as well as to analyze why religious, social discrimination arise between people who practise different religions. The EU is a conglomeration of various religions and cultures which exist side by side, and although there is a sense of unity, conflicts still arise and the presence of tolerance and acceptance is needed. This project aims at laying foundations for the communication between people of different race, religion and culture to live in the united Europe. Moreover, the project corresponds to the 2011 priority, European year of volunteering. In the framework of the project young people will be guided on how religion is connected with volunteering and what practical activities have to be carried out in order to engage in the broad sense and practice of philanthropy.
